4 Day Mt Kenya Climb – Sirimon Route

The Sirimon Route, located on Mount Kenya, presents a favorable option for physically fit hill walkers seeking an accessible and enjoyable hiking experience. It surpasses Naromoru in terms of scenic beauty and is positioned on the mountain's drier side, providing remarkable walking opportunities.

This route entails ascending through a forested terrain, leading to a broad ridge that leads to the summit area. Commencing from the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki, the route offers sufficient access and boasts exceptional bunk house facilities, surpassing those available on the opposite side of the mountain.


Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi/Nanyuki/Old Moses.

Depart from your hotel in Nairobi at 0700 hrs and transfer to Nanyuki, arriving after a 3-hour journey. From there, proceed to Sirimon gate and commence a 3 to 4-hour hike (9km) to Old Moses camp (3300m). Old Moses camp offers an opportunity for acclimatization and provides diverse vegetation.

Day 2: Old Moses - Shiptons

After breakfast, embark on a hike to Shipton's camp (4200m) via Liki and Makinders valley, where you will spend the night. The hike is expected to take 6 to 8 hours.

Day 3: Shipton Camp/Point Lenana/Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp)

Begin the day early at 3 am and ascend a steep stony quarry, which leads to a cliff clearing offering a partial view of the lower Hall Tarns. Arrive at Point Lenana at approximately 6:30 am after a 3-hour hike. Witness the sunrise before descending to Shipton Camp in 2 hours for breakfast. Continue the descent to Old Moses Camp, which takes approximately 4 hours, where you will have dinner and spend the night. (Total distance: 21km, estimated duration: 9-10 hours)

Day 4: Judamaier Camp (Old Moses)/Sirimon/Nairobi

Following breakfast, descend through the rainforest for 2 hours to reach your transport vehicle. The vehicle will transport you back to Nairobi. (Distance: 9km, estimated duration: 2-3 hours)
